Waverly, TN – Humphrey’s Farmers Co-op recently awarded $1,580 to five local Future Farmers of America (FFA) chapters. This year a total of $7,900 was given in partnership with lending cooperative CoBank as part of its Sharing Success program.
Under “Sharing Success,” CoBank will match contributions by its cooperative customers to the nonprofit organizations of their choice on a dollar-for-dollar basis, from a minimum of $1,000 up to a maximum of $5,000. Humphrey’s Farmer’s Co-op and Manager Randy Hite have given since the program’s inception in 2012. Humphrey’s Farmers Co-op and CoBank have jointly given $37,900 to area FFA chapters. This partnership makes a monumental difference for the benefitting local FFA programs allowing students to attend FFA State and National Conventions, grow their greenhouses, provide resources for student laboratories, and assists with travel to competitions across the region and state.
Chapters that received funds include: East Hickman, Hickman, Houston County, McEwen, and Waverly. FFA members representing each of the five chapters visited their local Co-op to receive the check from Co-op employees.
“We make an effort to support FFA on an annual basis because we know the impact it makes on the FFA members in our community,” said Randy Hite of Humphrey’s Farmers Co-op. “Chapters will use these funds to send students to competitions and conventions, where they learn valuable skills for the future.”
FFA makes a positive difference in the lives of students by developing their potential for premier leadership, personal growth, and career success through agricultural
education. Nationally, there are 649,355 FFA members, aged 12-21. The Tennessee FFA Association is comprised of more than 13,000 members from 214 high school chapters, seven middle school chapters, and eight collegiate chapters across the state of Tennessee.
